BOARDMAN, Ohio – The document-imaging industry has faced pressures from many sides over the last two decades as fax devices have been replaced with scan-to-email, texting or a quick photo, and the internet and handheld devices provide alternatives to paper-based publications.
Flexibility and creativity have never been more important, says Debra Dellaposta, owner and CEO of Doing Better Business. To meet changing needs, the company expanded its product offerings with two key partnerships. Laserfiche allows clients to create eforms and digital document workflows, she says. And with Ricoh Document Management Solutions, Doing Better Business can perform massive back office file-scanning services to bring documents online.
“With a true paperless office being difficult to achieve in many organizations, we offer document management systems that provide the ability to experience a less-paper office,” Dellaposta says. “When applications allow, digital forms can produce a total digital based workflow solution for the greatest efficiency.”
The company also expanded its offerings of interactive flat panel displays and wide format-imaging devices.
Revenue stayed steady year-over-year while the customer base increased 5%. Without the new digital document solutions, revenue would have declined 10%, Dellaposta says.
With competitors lowering the costs to produce documents, imaging companies are seeing a reduced revenue base and lower margins, she says.
Doing Better Business, based in Altoona, Pa., serves 56 counties in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia. Its local office is in Boardman.

The company looks to continue its growth this year, she says. On Jan. 1, it acquired Canton Business Machines.
