YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Over the last year, MS Consultants supported several major projects in the Mahoning Valley.
The upgrade of Fifth Avenue in Youngstown improved pedestrian safety, reduced the roadway footprint, increased mobility, and enhanced aesthetics for Youngstown State University and surrounding businesses and residents.
This project showcased innovative solutions that are new to a city concept, says Krystal Paisley, director of marketing for MS. It also was the template for the seven other downtown street transformations currently under construction.
Columbus-based MS Consultants is a planning, engineering and architectural firm with an office in downtown Youngstown.
Another pivotal project for the firm is the Mahoning River Corridor Revitalization Plan, led by Eastgate Regional Council of Governments. Thirteen riverfront communities are collaborating on this effort to enhance the corridor and remove dams.
MS is the program manager on six dam removals, working with the cities of Struthers, Youngstown and Warren, and Trumbull County MetroParks, Paisley says.
The federal Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, Bridge Assistance Program, and federal stimulus bills will help Mahoning Valley communities make improvements and MS Consultants is poised to help them.
The firm’s experts in water, wastewater, transportation, construction, land development, and energy divisions can assist cities and counties as they fund, plan, design and execute projects.
Looking ahead, MS was chosen by the Ohio Department of Transportation to be the lead designer on the Interstate 680 rehabilitation project in Mahoning County that began at the end of last year. The $65 million project will improve a large section of the highway while enhancing traffic flow, the roadway itself, and the drainage systems, Paisley says.
