CANFIELD – Since starting work at Youngstown Tile & Terrazzo his sophomore year in high school, Joshua Cohol has held every position at the company over the last 27 years. In September, he and his wife, Amanda, officially took over ownership of the company.
Youngstown Tile was founded in 1947 by Attilio Bertolini and specialized in commercial flooring. In recent years it expanded into the residential flooring market.
In July the Cohols opened an expanded showroom that includes a retail design center and commercial offices. The showroom, at 7320 W. Akron-Canfield Road, features the latest trends in flooring and countertops, including five luxury vinyl product lines, which are in increased demand, Cohol says.
“The changes in flooring technology are amazing. We carry what our customers are looking for,” he says.
Despite a 30% decline last year in commercial work, Youngstown Tile enjoyed a 30% increase in retail sales through its showroom as more residents invested in their homes and completed installation projects, Cohol says.
Through 2020, Youngstown Tile kept its workforce intact and recently hired a new retail salesperson and estimator, he notes.
